The best times to visit Tokyo are late March to April (cherry blossom season) and October to November (autumn foliage). Both periods offer perfect weather and spectacular scenery.

Tokyo is a year-round destination, but late March to early April (cherry blossoms, 10–18°C) and October to November (autumn foliage, 15–22°C) are the peak seasons for good reason — the city is at its most beautiful, crowds are manageable outside Shinjuku Gyoen and Ueno Park, and the weather is ideal for walking.

Cherry Blossom Timing

Tokyo's cherry blossom (sakura) peak typically falls between March 25 and April 5 — but this varies by up to two weeks year-on-year depending on winter temperatures. The Japan Meteorological Corporation releases annual forecasts from late January. Book flights and accommodation the moment the forecast drops, as peak bloom week sells out within days. Best viewing spots: Shinjuku Gyoen (entry ¥500), Chidorigafuchi moat, Ueno Park (free, lively hanami picnic atmosphere).
