Getting Around Doha: Apps vs Metro

Karwa taxis can be hailed on the street or booked via the Karwa app. Uber is available and widely used by expats and visitors — both are safe, legal, and air-conditioned. The Doha Metro (Red Line: Airport to Al Wakra; Gold Line: Al Qassar to Education City) is excellent and QAR 2–4 per journey. It opened in 2019 and expanded for the FIFA World Cup 2022 — covering Hamad Airport, West Bay, Msheireb Downtown, and most tourist areas. Women-only metro carriages are available on all trains.

During Ramadan, taxi availability can be limited around iftar time (sunset) as many drivers break their fast. Plan journeys outside the iftar window (30–60 minutes either side of sunset) or pre-book via the Karwa app. The Metro runs normal service during Ramadan.
